Modular Urban Multi Hub

The innovation of an interconnected and multidisciplinary urban hub, designed for public administrations (municipalities, provinces, regions) as an inclusive hub for social and cultural gathering, with services dedicated to residents and tourists.

The interconnection

Urban Hub App

It represents the heart of the system. It is designed to be simple and intuitive, so it will have two distinct sections: one for primary and secondary school students and one for citizens.

The URBAN HUB APP will be able to geolocate the various Modular Urban Multi Hub structures present in the area, making them easily accessible and managing all the main functions.

Monitoring of competitions and initiatives

The Hub can provide communications to primary and secondary schools regarding potential prize competitions. Students will be able to accumulate (monitored) points on an annual basis, based on how many separate waste collections are made in the smart bins located in facilities throughout the area.

Another communication tool for students will be the availability of cartoon stories about the life and transformation of sorted waste, from its collection until it becomes recycled material (glass, paper, and plastic).

Cartoon Stories

The stories will be accessible when each individual fraction is collected, either automatically or upon direct activation by the student. Viewing can be done directly on the interactive screen in the facility or from your smartphone.

Managed library

Access to the social library, in order to be able to withdraw or donate books.

Bookable top-up

Booking charging stations for light urban mobility, scooters, and e-bikes.

Four interconnections

The school

A clean planet, a secure future!

  • Primary and secondary schools as gateways to sustainable communication.

  • Thanks to the MODULAR URBAN HUB facilities, student visits can be organized throughout the municipality, creating a calendar of interesting events, such as themed days. These events will aim to raise students' awareness of what they can do to preserve the environment around them and how to promote common-sense practices regarding environmental issues, which we provide below as examples.

  • Objective: correct waste management

  • Problem: The importance of waste separation and plastic reduction.

  • Action (Elementary): The Game of Colors

Teach the colors of the bins: Blue=Paper, Yellow=Plastic, etc.

  • The Action (Medium): Stop Single-Use

Promote the use of reusable water bottles and containers.

  • Language: Waste is a resource. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are our three secret powers.

  • Involvement of supply chain consortia to support communication campaigns.

The context and challenges for municipal administrations
  • Current problems: waste management and environmental communication, lack of social spaces, local tourism promotion.
  • Waste management and environmental communication are currently a challenge for all municipal administrations, which are constantly seeking the best solutions and technologies to make the services they offer citizens increasingly smart—designed to simplify their lives. The goal is to streamline services and reduce costs for citizens , while also engaging them in environmental sustainability communication efforts.
  • The lack of spaces for socializing outside of the usual social gatherings makes people increasingly isolated from the livable context of our cities; it pushes the new generations towards a depersonalized socialization typical of a virtual, not real, world.
  • Enhancethe social, cultural, and tourism aspects of the region, with the aim of making it more interactive and accessible to both residents and tourists. Tourism enhancement is typically the most complex aspect to manage. The MODULAR URBAN HUB aims to support these challenges and serve as a multidisciplinary tool that integrates the various aspects.
The key objectives of the project and its modules
  • Become a powerful environmental communication tool, raising awareness among all citizens, both adults and schoolchildren, about separate waste collection. The issues include improving the quality of waste collection, increasing the percentage of waste sorting, and the journey that sorted waste takes, from its disposal to its recycling in the plastic, glass, and paper supply chains. It is transformed into other consumer products, which are reintroduced into the market with significant environmental and economic benefits, as well as environmental sustainability—linked to the choices each of us makes in our daily lives.
  • Become a social and cultural hub for the Municipality thanks to its services. For example, charging stations for cell phones, iPads, computers, scooters, and e-bikes; as well as its community library section, where anyone can check out or deposit books through a dedicated app—after registering on a dedicated website that will be created as part of this project.
  • Become an interactive support hub serving the tourism sector, thanks to the presence of interactive screens on board the MODULAR URBAN HUB station. The screens will be available to tourists, providing real-time information on the historical, archaeological, and/or naturalistic heritage of the municipality and on the best transportation system to reach the sites of interest.
  • Become an interactive support hub for various institutional activities, thanks to an interactive screen managed directly by the Municipal Administration. The Administration will be able to provide real-time responses to citizens' questions and/or requests on local issues, as well as send various institutional messages. Furthermore, a dedicated totem (equipped with its own hardware and software) will be able to assess citizen satisfaction with the services provided by the Municipal Public Administration.
